Edmonton Green Shopping Centre Closure Order Update |
||
|
Good afternoon all,
I am writing to you today to provide an update on the Edmonton Green Shopping Centre Closure Order. Obtained in September, the Closure Order has allowed police to arrest dozens of offenders, reducing crime and ASB offences throughout the centre. In November, it was extended for a further three months; meaning the order has now expired.
So, you may be wondering why we didn't extend it again? Well, the answer to that is: we can't. A closure order can only be extended once, and for a maximum of three months.
However, the last six months have NOT been taken for granted by your local police team. Community Protection Warnings and Community Protection Notices have been issued to all arrested persons, meaning that we have an added 6-12 months of legislation to use against our prolific offenders, and a review will take place at the end of March as to whether we will re-apply for a new Closure Order. I ask that you have patience whilst we observe a month of policing the centre without a closure order in place, and I will update you again when that decision is made.
Best,
Zac.
